IND4.0 Master Student Universitas Syiah Kuala excelled in the 2023 Indonesia AI Innovation Challenge Competition

A team of students and researchers from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Syiah Kuala University, made achievements at the national level competition,

the AI Innovation Challenge organized by Terretech and the Indonesian Digital Industry Center (PIDI 4.0). The competition, which aims to encourage and support the development of innovative solutions using artificial intelligence (AI) to address real challenges in society, provides an opportunity for innovators, developers, and creative thinkers to explore the limitless potential of AI in solving complex problems and providing positive impact on society.

In the competition, participants were given the opportunity to present their ideas and solution prototypes to a jury consisting of leading AI experts and industry innovators. Hundreds of teams from industry, academics and entrepreneurs registered for this activity which were then selected again to become 63 teams and finally curated again into 12 selected teams who took part in the AI incubation camp for 3 weeks online. In this incubation camp, participants are given knowledge about customer validation, market validation, business models, revenue streams, and funding. At the end of the incubation camp, a hot-seat was held in the form of a pitching process in front of a panel of judges and mentors to select 9 teams that would advance to the grand final.

The USK AI team brought innovation under the name LUDESC and was selected to enter the grand final held at JIExpo Kemayoran Jakarta on August 24th, 2023. The jury for this grand final consisted of AI practitioners from KORIKA, representatives of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy and the Ministry of Industry and trade of the Republic of Indonesia, and also from leading investors in Indonesia. USK Ludesc Team under the direction of Dr. Roslidar (Lecturer in Electrical and Computer Engineering-USK) and guidance from medical staff Dr. Dr. Mulkan Azhary, M.Sc. (Director of Teaching Hospital-USK), won 3rd place (2nd runner up) and received a prize of 25 million rupiah along with AWS credit of 5000 USD.

The Head of the Ludesc Team is a student who is a student in IND 4.0 Erasmus+ Programme in the Electrical Engineering Masters program, Muhammad Jurej Alhamdi as CEO of Ludesc, with members Cut Nanda Nurbadriani as CMO Ludesc who is a student in the field of concentration of Biomedical Engineering in the Electrical Engineering Master Progra, and Al Yafi as CTO Ludesc who is a student of Computer Engineering Study Program. Ludesc or Lung Disease Screening is an innovation that utilizes AI technology for telemedicine that allows patients to independently check for lung disorders by detecting sounds heard through a stethoscope.
